I heard the swarm before I saw it, walking outside and hearing the low hum of 1,000 bees all huddled together on a fence post. I hauled out a new hive, opened the top, put on my bee suit and got to work. First: You spray the bees with a mixture of water and sugar. This essentially distracts them (they are busy licking the sugar off themselves) while you scoop them up and place them in the new hive. I somehow managde to get stung once THROUGH my thick leather gloves, but otherwise, I safely got the bees into their box. The bee yard is really growing!
