I've been following MB for ever on twitter...and she lives up here near me! So cool to see her do so much for women in ag and in bucking the system! Go Megan!
This interview was great! My favorite line: "I'm a petty bitch in the best possible way" :D
The Florida Farm Bureau has a specific program for women, so I've seen the progress. I just hope we don't slide backwards. So fun reading about other women farmers/ranchers!
This is awesome. Women in agriculture. This differentiator makes so much sense, I don't know why I haven't thought about it before.
Here in Switzerland, there are separate vocational training paths for a Bauer (farmer) or a Bäuerin (female farmer). The lady farmer school is very concentrated on how to run a rural household, preserving the fruits of one's labors, etc. So women in agriculture are still mostly considered an accessory to the man in agriculture.
This is changing very slowly: in a recent survey, about one-quarter of farm women under 35 said they were the sole operator of a farm. No data available about why or how they run their farms, unfortunately.
Megan’s example of gathering her cows reminds me of the movie Babe, where Babe herds the sheep by being courteous and polite vs barking and gnashing at them like sheepdogs (VERY complimentary).
I just love reading your posts. They bring all good things and especially hope. We need community and bravery. As someone who is old enough to be your grandma, and living in N W CT, where farming and vo ag are still here I say you go woman! I admire your chickens too.

Lovely post. I appreciated the father-to-daughter compliment in the Q&A.
