So sorry Veli has to endure the cone, but I'm glad her leg was fixable. Now you have to survive the recovery!
I nuked my twitter too and I was sad because of all the lovely connections, but the Uglydogs have migrated to Bluesky and Blair has shown up too! So glad you are there as well.
Your nighttime harvest brings back memories of going out to “the back 40” (as my mother referred to the extensive veg garden) with my dad in the dark and the cold to “rescue” the Brussels sprouts. We were the only two in our family of six who ate them, and took our mission— after the first hard frost but before the snow— very seriously.
In 2022, during the first X exodus, you created an account on Mastodon. I've been there ever since and often re-post your posts there. There's a bridge between Bluesky and Mastodon - you'll receive a DM from me asking to bridge back to me (footsteps.sfba.social with some other domain). Once you enable a bridge, then any Mastodon user can find you and follow Veli's escape from the cone of shame.
I'm finally letting go of Twitter too. The worldwide Cats of Twitter community is incredibly supportive and saw me and my Ginger through some very tough times. And I still cherish the thoughtful, perfectly targeted gifts I received as part of the New Zealand Twitter Secret Santa that a group of amazing volunteers ran for several years (turns out people who stalk you on social media to see what you're interested in can learn things about what you might like that your family never will). But as Taylor says, when it's my Twitter and me, sitting in a tree, d-y-i-n-g, you know when it's time to go.
I can't believe you're doing all this with a baby. How? It boggles my mind.
I hope you catch that cat! And give him/her a good name. Something spirit-related. A white cat deserves a good ghostly name. Like Specter or Phantom. Or maybe just Boo! Especially cuz it seems so easily spooked.

Loved this as usual. And same, Twitter is literally gone but I find Substack notes a satisfying replacement!
Especially good photos and I can picture the headlamp moment in the cold, dark garden!

BTW I have had limited success with the bird-be-safe collar on Calvin. He has still caught a couple birds.
