You're A Tough Bird
The slog may seem endless, but never doubt that you’ve got the strength to get through it. One step at a time, we’re all getting closer to warmer, better days. Keep on, keeping on. You’re tougher than you think. — Dolly PartHen, Birdie Sanders, and the whole “we’re so sick of this sh*t” crew
Here’s What’s Happening At Good Spirits Farm
We got a surprise snowstorm last Saturday night. They called for an inch and we woke up to around six. The heavy snow took down the electric wire fence I use to rotate the cows throughout the pasture, so the girls took themselves on a little adventure. With a bucket of treats, some frozen fingers and miminal cursing, I was able to get the fence back up and the herd back where it belonged!
Our starter flock of sheep was supposed to arrive this week, but then an ice storm waylayed the driver picking them up. That’s actually for the best, we were not quite ready, but they should be here in the next week or two.
In between ice and snow events we had a weird 50-degree day and were overjoyed to see our bees just going nuts in the warm weather. It’s always nice to know that your hive is still alive.
Here’s What I Loved This Week
My friend and fellow guinea lover Anna Cooley sent me her adorable new project, “The Book Of Gertie.” Gertie is a guinea who has lots of adventures and opinions—just like my guineas! I love Anna’s art, so it was so fun to see this in my mailbox.
Throughout the pandemic, several friends have mailed me the most wonderful and totally unexpected surprises. Each one has amazingly come when I’ve felt at some sort of new low. There’s a lot about this past year that I don’t particularly care to remember, but I’ll always cherish the memories of these small acts of kindness.
