Here’s What’s Happening At Good Spirits Farm
Every time I think I have the hang of this farming thing, I realize, actually, yeah, nope. Last Saturday, I roped a friend into helping me trim sheep feet and give spring vaccines. I set up the working area—a very makeshift corral with a chair we hoist the sheep into for pedicures.
In the past, they’ve followed me with just the shake of a grain bucket. But this time? Absolutely not. Either they remembered that the working area was where they got shots last year, or they were too nervous about a new person’s presence to allow us to get close enough to shut them into the chute. After an hour spent chasing them around the barnyard (Juliet thinking the whole game was great fun), we gave up and decided we’d try again another day.
(Titania, my most feral sheep, was truly the instigator, turning tail and sprinting for the hills every time we got close to shutting them into the working area. She’s lucky she’s cute.)
As an early spring cold snap approached, I turned the heat mats on below my pepper and tomato seedlings—only to accidentally fry them. I checked them yesterday and every last one was shriveled and lifeless! Darn it! I’ll have to start them all over this weekend.
I’m just about out of stockpiled grass from last summer. While the spring grass is coming in, I’m trying to slow the flerd’s rotation down, so I don’t damage those tender baby grass shoots. I’m feeding my last round bales of hay for the season and feeling grateful for my two best childhood friends who surprised me with such a generous Christmas gift: They offered to buy a last load of hay to get me through the winter. Everyone is fat and happy here, the sheep have their very own hay mountain to play on, and I feel very lucky to have friends who always have my back.

Here’s What I Loved This Week
I had a super high-stress day at work on Thursday and somehow Puck knew sheep snuggles were exactly what I needed. I caught him on video being extremely loving, and totally melting my anxieties away.
Let your loyal readers know if you need anything and we will be happy to pitch in -- every time I watch the news, they always show the temperatures in your town and I'm like, Ugh, it's freezing at the farm again!
I have a cow-crush on Petey! 😍
