(It’s all the chicken butts)
You deserve every good thing this world has to offer. Mealworms. Corn bits. Sunflower seeds. But most of all: Love and care from everyone around you.
— The entire Good Spirits Farm Flock
Here’s What’s Happening At Good Spirits Farm
This year, I had to initiate Todd to the Good Spirits Farm Thanksgiving Tradition: Feeding everyone a Thanksgiving dinner. The horses got extra alfalfa.
I hauled extra hay out to the flerd, even though they had plenty of grass.
(Don’t tell Beatrice it’s rude to chew with your mouth open….and to use your daughter as a plate.)
And the chickens got a smorgasbord of leftover bread, kitchen scraps from cooking dinner, and corn and seed scratch, all delivered to the compost pile, which is a never-ending source of worms and bugs.
I’m thankful for everything these critters provide to me: food, entertainment, companionship, and plenty of material for a silly little newsletter. Feeding them a holiday dinner seems like a small price to pay for what I get in return.
Here’s What I Loved This Week
This week, I looked up from the dining room table as the afternoon sunlight was streaming in and thought: I love my house. I never imagined I’d be able to have a mortgage all on my own—as freelance writing isn’t exactly stable. But somehow, I have made it happen, and this little 70s-era ranch has provided a safe harbor through a very tumultuous part of my life.
We recently started in on a bathroom remodel, and it’s just one of 16 million things the house needs. Still, the bones are good and I am so lucky to call this place home.
Thanks for sharing the animal entertainment with us. A friend of mine says “chicken TV” beats all.
Happy Thanksgiving! Grateful for you and all the joy your critters and writing bring!
