Just 17 days until the light lingers a bit longer each day. But maybe you hadn’t noticed this winter’s long shadow because you’re a source of brightness to everyone in your life. Thank you for lighting our way. —Heebeejeebees
Here’s What’s Happening At Good Spirits Farm
We got snow! This happens so rarely in Tennessee that it always feels special. Gimlet got bundled up in her little cow jacket and enjoyed some zoomies in the snow. The guineas were less enthusiastic and did whatever they could to avoid touching it.
I tried to save the lettuce, cabbages, and swiss chard by covering them up, but I haven’t had the guts to peak underneath those covers and see how they faired. Hopefully, we didn’t lose everything; it’s been so nice to still have a little bit of greenery from the garden.
It’s happened: Every single one of our 2-year-old laying hens has given up laying for the winter. I knew this was a possibility, as they started to molt, but yesterday we only got four tiny eggs from our new crop of layers. Even though I have a waiting list of egg customers, I’m not mad. These gals work so hard all year long, they deserve a break!
Here’s What I Loved This Week
TikTok’s Korean Dad is my favorite new thing to watch! It’s so wholesome. I also loved a public relations pitch I got from a 12-year-old entrepreneur who made stickers to remind people to mask up this season.
