Your worth is not tied to the size of your nest egg. So many Americans are struggling financially right now, and I’m here to tell you that equating money with virtue is an idea that needs to get scrambled. We are more than the balance in our bank accounts. Heck, I don’t even have a bank account—I’m a chicken. Still: My mom says the joy and love I bring her make me priceless. I bet someone feels the same about you. - Heebeejeebees (aka The Original Snuggle Chicken)
Here’s What’s Happening At Good Spirits Farm
Our cow friends made it!!! Benni (left) and Julia (right) arrived last Sunday and they’ve settled in. Benni, who used to be a therapy cow, loves attention and cookies. Julia is shy, but she’s learning that cozying up to a human might just result in a cookie coming her way, too.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the eight turkeys I purchased as breeding stock this year….are all dudes. Oops! I guess all of you are invited for Thanksgiving!
Blackberry season was our best yet. We’ve let the vines go wild along our fencelines, which makes our property look a little ragtag, but the birds and bears just love it, and we do too. We picked almost 13 pounds and left the rest for the wildlife.
This Week I Loved:
This poem, written by Thich Nhat Hanh. Entitled “For Warmth,” it was written during the Vietnam War, but is just as relevant today.
For Warmth
I hold my face in my two hands.
No, I am not crying.
I hold my face in my two hands
to keep the loneliness warm—
two hands protecting,
two hands nourishing,
two hands preventing
my soul from leaving me
in anger.
Last thing:
If you’re planning a fall garden, it’s about time to start those seeds! Don’t forget!
Having spent the whole year so far running a thousand miles an hour, I am finally reading your newsletter. It’s happy and sweet. I just love it 🐓
