When the world seems impossibly cruel, so fractured and full of bullies getting their way, remember that you are someone’s joy. You are a soft spot in this hard place. Your being here is a kindnesses to others.

Here’s What Is Happening On Good Spirits Farm
Even farms are not immune to bullies. This week, I noticed that one of our guinea hens is being ganged up on by the rest of the guineas. They chase her around, and she’s missing some feathers, so I suspect they’re pecking at her when they catch her.
But then, as I watched more closely, I realized something else: The chickens have adopted this poor little thing. All day long, she follows the chickens around. While guineas normally roam far and wide in a pack, this gal hangs close to the hen house with her chicken sisters, scratching in the dirt and lying about in the sun. A few days ago, we caught her taking a full-on dirt bath, something the chickens do regularly, but the guineas are not as keen on. I think she might think she’s a chicken! And the chickens are fine with their slightly odd-looking flockmate. They even let her eat the best of their snacks (the horse food) right along side them.
It’s been a wonderfully lush spring—cool temps and plenty of rain. The result is that my pastures are now a sea of verdant grass. The cows and sheep are overjoyed, and so is Veli, who loves to lounge on her emerald mattress.
Here’s What I Loved This Week
I don’t know if it was having a really long week at work or what, but I watched this video too many times yesterday and ended up laughing until I cried. I love when something tips from funny to hilarious to you for no real reason (and people around you are baffled as to why you are so tickled by something that is, arguably funny but not *that* funny), and you dissolve into a totally unreasonable fit of giggles. Few things feel more soul-healing than a good bout of uncontrollable laughter.
Thank you for the quote from Juliet. She really is a soft spot, and a poet.
That pink shark.... I died. :)
