We have one hen who 13 YO and this winter she stopped getting to the roost in the coop and her balance is diminishing but she is a eager as ever to get out into the yard from the fenced run every morning. My condolences for the loss of Ruthie, barred rocks are our favorite breed.
They're really great chickens. LOVE that you have a 13 year old. I believe Ruthie was 8, and she'd really slowed down, but that give me hope some of my older girls will truck on for years to come!
