Here’s What’s Happening On Good Spirits Farm

• We still have no cow baby!!! Benni’s previous owner thinks she must have goofed on the breeding date. Benni’s still huge and very uncomfortable but does not seem to be in any distress, so we’re not panicking. We talked to several long-time cow farmers who essentially said: She’s fine so long as she isn’t stuck in active labor (she’s not).

• Trying to get a vet out to check Benni has made me realize I’m pretty much on my own. My two nearest vets told me they could come in….two weeks. Yikes. There is a real dearth of farm vets in rural America, and I’m going to have to learn as much as I can as fast as I can.

• I’m no fan of climate change, but we’re somehow still getting strawberries in late October and it feels like the October surprise I actually want!
